The Force is strong in Game Boy!
Finally I can retire those old worn out VHS tapes from my Star Wars Trilogy boxed set! At last Lucasfilm has listened to the cries of their fans and announced they will be releasing these gems on DVD for the very first time. I'm not talking about the "Special Editions" that are currently out with the lousy "improved" CGI special effects and disappointing additional footage (Han Solo totally shot first!). These are the untampered original films that haven't been available on video for at least 10 years. To celebrate this momentous occasion LucasArts and publishers TT Games will release the new LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy for the Game Boy Advance (GBA) and most of the other current systems on Sep. 12th, the same day the DVDs hits shelves.
LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is actually just the working title, but eventually they're going to have to change it to avoid confusion. The game is not based on Episode II the movie, but actually the first three classic films, Episode IV, V and VI, which were released many years before Episode II, but because this is the second game in the series LucasArts still gave it a “II” moniker…see, I told you it was confusing.
The information in their press release claims that the game will allow players to “customize more than 50 new playable characters by mixing and matching body parts, to build their own LEGO Star Wars heroes.” All of the characters and vehicles in this game look like those cute little LEGO figures, adding a slice of humor to the sci-fi adventure. Not much else has been mentioned of the GBA version of the game.
Reports are coming in that hardcore Star Wars geeks are already lining up outside of their local gaming shops in anticipation for the September release.
