2007 was a frustrating year for the GBA; although the system is just as popular as ever, even outselling the PS 3 for more than half the year, retailers have downsized the GBA space for more expensive next-gen handheld systems. Many games in production were canceled, and some completed ones won't ship at all, leaving the fewest new GBA releases in the systems history.
Regardless, several titles did rise up and outshined their console counterparts as some of the best GBA games ever released.
1. Final Fantasy VI Advance
This port of the original Super Nintendo console game takes the top slot as the highest quality, and most popular GBA title of 2007. FF4 Advance is also the most complete version of the Japanese RPG classic to be released in North America, plus the final GBA game to be published by Nintendo.
A thousand years after a war of magic almost destroys an ancient land, the use of magic has been replaced with technology, until an evil empire lead by Emperor Gestahl learns to bring the mystical powers back and use it to rule the world. You are part of a small team of rebel warriors called The Returners who set out to put an end to Gestahl’s plans.
2. The Legend of Spyro – The Eternal Night
This sequel to The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning is considered by many to be the best Spyro game since the original PlayStation 1 classic. This richly designed action platformer has Spyro learning more about his mysterious past as he journeys to defeat Gaul, the Ape-King and his Dark Master.3. TMNT - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
A great example of the GBA game that’s leagues better than its console counterpart; Ubisoft went old school with this arcade style beat-em-up side-scroller, who’s non-stop action and quality graphics is the best TMNT game to release since the original arcade classic. A must have for any retro action fan. The only problem is that the game is far too short.4. Crash Of The Titans
This is the perfect GBA title for nostalgia lovers who miss the original 2D Crash Bandicoot console titles. The evil Neo and Nina Cortex have turned all of Crash’s buddies into giant mutated menaces. Now Crash must stop his friends from causing any destruction, get them back to normal and defeat the baddies.5. SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis
While the console version of this game sunk, the GBA adventure stood out as an exciting adventure padded out with mini-games. SpongeBob, Patrick and the rest of the gang from Bikini Bottom have find a magical amulet that zaps them to the sunken city of Atlantis, where they search for a lost treasure and the legendary "World's Oldest Bubble".6. Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Burning Earth
Standing out as the best co-op action-adventure GBA game of the year, The Burning Earth creatively crafts the feeling of each character’s unique powers, as you jump back and forth between two adventurers in a battle against the deadly Fire Nation.7. M&M's Break Em All
Don't be fooled by mistaking this as an advertisement for candy disguised as a video game. Break 'Em All is a surprisingly fun and addictive puzzle game, where the only drawback is that they didn't design enough levels.8. Petz Vet
Educational while still fun, Petz Vet is designed for younger gamers. Players learn about animal health in a sim game where they take the roll of a veterinarian, diagnose illnesses, and treat the sickly animals that come to the clinic.
