The Bottom Line
- Still fun to play "Lost Vikings" style corporative gameplay.
- Gameplay graphics maintain the quality standard of the Shrek 2 GBA game.
- BasicallyOverall game seems thrown together.
- Extremely poor innerstitial graphics. Shrek looks like a green blob.
- Shrek, the star of the game, is the least desirable character to play.
Description
- Playable characters: Shrek, Donkey, Puss in Boots and the newly added Author Pendragon.
- Each character has their own unique abilities.
- Coorporative style gameplay.
Guide Review - Shrek the Third Review - Game Boy Advance
Where Shrek 2 had well designed levels, creative use of the cooperative puzzle-like gameplay which allowed players to switch between playable characters, using their unique abilities to move the group through each level, Shrek the Third feels as though they just threw graphics over the old stuff, added a few additional platforms and swinging ropes, then packaged it with shabby interstitial graphics.
The addition of Author (aka "Artie") doesn't feel like it adds any value of the game, as his abilities arent much different than Puss in Boots, and it causes you to play less of the character the game was originally intended for...Shrek. The big green guy is the least desirable character to play as all he's now good for is lifting heavy objects and breaking down certain barriers. Even in combat his reach is so much shorter than the other characters that its best not to use him if you dont want to take damage.
All this being said, Shrek the Third is so close to the same experience as Shrek 2, if your able to look past all its shortcomings, youre likely to get what you want out of it, at least until the next Shrek game comes along.
Parents Tips:E for Everyone by the ESRB. As with Shrek 2, the most violent content is Puss In Boots' use of his sword to kill enemies. Also, the story deals with a dying King. Death might not be uncommon to fairy tales, be mindful of this for those extra young players.
