Game Boy at E3 2006 – Day 3

Saturday May 13, 2006

Spielberg, Sneak Peeks, LucasArts & Exhaustion Set In!

…and so ends the last day of E3 and boy are my dogs tired. Thanks for joining me as I hunted out all that Game Boy has to offer at the biggest video game show of the year, and have a great weekend!

What's that? I forgot to recap the day? Boy, I must really be tired!

Friday at E3 is the time that things start winding down in anticipation of the end of the show. If you've been here all three days your bones are aching from the constant walking, standing and the backbreaking task of gathering all the freebies you can stuff in the giveaway bags. Over the past two days I have watched presentations, interviewed GBA publishers/developers, questioned Nintendo on the future of the system, covered miles of ground seeking out demos and I'm feeling it today.

Although everyone is gearing up for the show to end, there is still quite a bit of activity. I was able to get a walkthrough of the latest high concept games from Atlus, received a special look at the GBA game Eragon and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend and went from one end of the show to the other attempting to catch the remaining GBA demos, but it's impossible to see them all. The one I'm most disappointed in missing is LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. For the first two days of the show LucasArts' booth was used for private meetings only, no press. I couldn’t even get a press kit. On Friday they opened their doors to the "general public" and they got mobbed. Now I love Star Wars and I'm sure the new GBA is yummy and delicious with a creamy center, but I chose covering the rest of the show instead of standing in that four hour line, and I don't regret it. The Game Boy presence may have diminished at the show, but the quality of the games are just as good as they ever were. I ditched the LucasArts line and headed to the main floor in the South hall and…hey! Isn't that Stephen Spielberg?

Over the next few days look for my post-E3 wrap up, interviews and articles about Game Boy's presence and the future of the system. Once I'm rested I'll start organizing the ton of press kits, business cards and all my notes. Can I go to sleep now?
